One month into 2021, what have you accomplished? What have you learned? How have you grown? I haven’t changed, learned, or grown much. Time to start putting money where my mouth is.

Short stories are hard to write. Try it! When crafted well, they are are magical. How does a intentional combination of words create magic? Their is magic in writing. Pay attention to those who are good at it. They might change you!

Quit

#163

1-28-21

10:09am

I’m really thinking about quitting this blog. There’s a lot of power in quitting things you’re not that committed too. Then you can focus on the things you’re actually committed too. What are the benefits in keeping this? I should go back and look at my old entries. I know I told myself that I am going to get to 200 entries. I mean, I’m so close. Why not finish? Plus it’s takes two minutes every morning for me to write. Not hard at all. So why not keep it until I’m at 200 then reexamine?

Nobody Cares

#162

1-27-21

9:19am

Sometimes I have to remember that nobody cares. Everybody is worrying about themselves so nobody actually cares what you say or do. If you do something or say something embarrassing, nobody is going to be thinking about it ten minutes later. Do not let other people’s opinions dictate you. Do whatever the heck you want.

Who gives a shit?

#161

Who actually gives a shit about what you think or do? Nobody cares! Everybody is too busying worrying about themselves. So do the same, start worrying about yourself and don’t give a shit about what others think.

Willpower

#160

Set up some boundaries for yourself. “I won’t eat sweets on Wednesdays” Then watch as you’ll be tempted to eat so many sweets on Wednesdays. Are you the type of person who will stick to their guns? Or are you the type that makes compromises? If your willpower is defeated by a cookie, then you are weak. Do not make compromises for a cookie. If you do, you are weakening your willpower. There will come a time where you are faced with the decision to make a compromise for something far more dangerous. “Should I sleep with her anyways?” “I mean, it’s just a couple hundred more dollars.” Don’t risk it.

Pass/Fail

If you hate a class in college, then take it pass/fail. The load will be easier, you won’t stress as much. Or pretend you’re already taking it pass/fail and then attack the class without fear. It might do the same thing.

Forgetfulness

How come I always forget to write in this blog? This habit has not been set up yet. I need to identify the habit triggers then stick to it!

We learn through metaphor so book up a book and read. Fiction, nonfiction, whatever. They all work. If you don’t read then you are agreeing to stay stagnant and bland.

On Being an Essentialist

#156

1-18-21

9:47am

You’re dragged into playing basketball so you can be a good sport and hang with your friends. You recently read the book Essentialism by Greg Mckeown and you feel like a cheat because you’re not being an essentialist. What do you do? Instead of pouting or even participating in basketball, what can you do that would make the experience enjoyable? Maybe find some pleasure in cheering really loudly. Maybe find some pleasure in making intentional small talk with the other people on the bench. Maybe just step to the side and read a book on your phone. Whatever it is, if you don’t like playing basketball, don’t play basketball.

Compound Interest

#155

1-17-21

11:25am

I have written about this many times, and I will write about it again. Habits are an example of compound interest. If you continue to practice something everyday, you will get better. You will not see results in a week and maybe even in a month. You have to keep practicing and the interest and principal will keep compounding. Do not be discouraged. If you keep it up, then you will be sitting on a fortune. Keep it up! Everyday! I know I suck at keeping this blog.

Secrets

#154

When you pledge allegiance to a friend and they tell you all their secrets, you keep them safe. What do you do if another friend tells you their secrets which make it seem like friend #1 is totally in the wrong? What do you do? Do you tell friend #2 the secrets? Do you start lying?

Secrets secrets are no fun. secrets aren’t for everyone.

Conclusions

1-14-21

#153

People come to conclusions on their own. So much for telling someone of or commanding someone to do something. They won’t do it. If you want somebody to do something, you have to guide them so they can make the conclusion on their own. It’s so gosh darn frustrating and it’s far more effective.
